‘It’s Childsplay’ – a new event for Weston-super-Mare took place on Sunday 3rd May 2009 supporting the Children’s Hospice South West.
The Organisers: The two Rotary clubs based in the town: West Woodspring and Weston-super-Mare along with the support of the West Woodspring Inner Wheel club.
The Event: A sponsored walk with a difference!
The participating walkers determined where they started, how far they can walked and with whom they walked.
There were ten separate ‘It’s Childsplay’ events taking place on the same day throughout Somerset, North Devon and Dorset, with each event selecting the hospice they wish to support. The aim is to better last year’s achievement of collecting £20,000 for children’s hospice charities in the South West.
The finishing point was on the Beach Lawns between noon and 5:00pm.
To assist there were a number of organised starting points/times around the town – with walks varying in length from one to four miles.
Participants who pledged to raise a minimum of £10 by sponsorship received an ‘It’s Childsplay’ T-shirt.
Entertainment was provided at the finishing point, including a children's entertainer, face painters and jazz band.
The Weston-super-Mare event raised £3000 for the charity.
