Club News - The Big Pit Visit
September 2008
A number of members of the club spent an enjoyable day at the Big Pit National Coal Museum at Blaenafon, South Wales.
The guided tour, conducted by an experienced colliery person, lasted just about an hour. A further 20 minutes or was taken 'kitting up' with helmet and cap lamp, collecting contraband (cigarettes, matches, mobile phones, battery-operated equipment etc.) and riding through the shaft with a 300ft (90m) descent down the mineshaft by pit cage.
We managed not to lose anyone down there!!
